Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum December Despatches
Crouch End’s Christmas is set to arrive this week, on Saturday December 3rd in the Town Hall Square to be precise – where the Crouch End Festival Christmas Craft Market culminates in the switch on of the grand Christmas tree. Expect choirs, a grotto, a brass band, a local celebrity, and the Forum! There’s an Etsy Local London market inside Hornsey Town Hall too, or you can indulge yourself with the seemingly inexhaustible supply of cottage industry at the hyper-local Crouch End barboot (Friday 2nd, 7pm) at some of the best independent shops.
The day is also Small Business Saturday, with FREE parking in Council run pay and display bays to promote local shopping. It’s a popular thing with local traders, and if you’re moved to muse about ideas to help the local economy take a look at the Forum’s current thinking.
More importantly, the Forum will once again have a stall at the fair. Come and say hello. In between shivering and mulled wine we may have fridge magnets to give away.
This time we’re sounding people out on the local environment. Tell us about your favourite green spaces, what you think about local recycling, and which streets and spaces d’you think would benefit from new trees?
The future as a boutique hotel with a possible arts venue attached (and luxury apartments in back) moves inexorably closer. Haringey aim to exchange contracts with the Far East Consortium in a few weeks (we’re led to believe), so the development could start by the end of next year. On the one hand many of the locals are up in arms, and on the other the Council brook no criticism in their belief in the disposal. Should the veil lift and details emerge of exactly what is going to be built, we’ll let you know.
The Forum has mapped out its response.
The Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum is all about local planning, which means we’re taking an interest in the emerging Haringey Local Plan. Haringey are now consulting on the modifications to the plan recommended by the Inspector. You can comment through [email protected] (by 13 January 2017).
